Summer School Age

Offered for children 6-12 years of age, the summer program provides an extensive range of activities and field trips, including picnics, educational exhibits, summer sports, computer projects and a library reading program. Activities are planned to provide age-appropriate opportunities. The children are allowed freedom to explore a variety of interest areas in the classroom. They are also encouraged to create and invent activities that are relevant to their interests. These opportunities are provided in an environment that is facilitated by professional staff who understand the needs of children this age.

School Age Summer Schedule

6:30-6:45 Morning greetings in Preschool 2 room with all interest areas open (fine motor, blocks, games, art, quiet area, dramatic play, and science.)
6:45-8:30 Wash hands, All interest areas open (fine motor, games, art and crafts, blocks, dramatic play, science, quiet area) 7:15 Game time offered (introduce new game)
8:20-8:30 Clean up and prepare for breakfast – sanitize tables, teachers and children wash hands, setting tables, children assist in counting out plates, cups, etc.
8:30-9:00 Breakfast is offered – Teachers sit with the children to role model manners and communicate, may eat with the children.
8:50-9:00 Bathroom time and clean up.
9:00-9:20 Group time – discussing the day’s events (Field trips, in house visitors, community activity, craft or art activity) Group or part of group may go on a field trip- schedule is flexible depending on the days activities.
9:20-11:30 All interest areas open (fine motor, games, art and crafts, blocks, dramatic play, science, quiet area) 9:30-10:15 Wood working and sand or water activities open at this time. 10:15-11:15 Curriculum, Art and/or Craft activities done.
11:30-11:20 Clean up and lunch preparation – 1 teacher washes her hands, washes and sanitizes the table, and chooses children to help her count out dishes and set tables. The other teacher assists the children with clean up, washing hands, and going to the table.
11:40-12:00 Lunch time – After all of the children have been assisted in serving themselves 1 teacher should sit with the children to role model good manners and communicate, if 2 teachers are in the classroom the other teacher should quickly vacuum the carpet area.
12:10-12:30 Story time for all children interested, independent reading, or journal writing.
12:40-1:15 Outside Play- The teacher or teachers should station themselves to properly observe all children. Remember to take your check off list with you. Most important play and have fun with the children. (If weather is poor – indoor large muscle games and activities are done) As children return to the classroom hands must be washed.
1:15-3:00 All interest areas open (fine motor, art and crafts, blocks, dramatic play, science, quiet area) 1:45-2:30 Game time offered.
3:00-3:30 Snack preparation – wash and sanitize table, set out snack. Snack time – wash children’s hands and staff sit with the children to assist and communicate.
2:30-3:15 Outside Play- The teacher or teachers should station themselves to properly observe all children. Remember to take your check off list with you. 3:15-5:30 All interest areas open (fine motor, games, art and crafts, blocks, dramatic play, science, quiet area) 4:00-4:30 Curriculum, Art and/or Craft activities done. 4:30-5:15 Wood working and sand or water activities open at this time.
5:30-6:00 Join children in Preschool 2 classroom til departure time.
